The Magma Curse Corvette occupies an unusual niche in the Strayvian Dominion Armada: a dedicated close-attack vessel. Whereas the rest of the Dominion’s armada is armed with clusters of spinal lazer cannons backed up by all-aspect lazer arrays, the Magma Curse had neither of these. Its main armament is a heavy lazer array that forms the dome-like prow. This weapon has an output rated to 2900TXq and is optimised for slicing vessels apart, with an accuracy envelope of 10000km. This is backed up by four 42TXq and four 26TXq light lazer cannons.
The single lazer array also serves as the Magma Curse’s close defence system, giving it a corresponding engagement sphere of 4.19Ym³. However, if forced to operate in this manner, it significantly degrades the Magma Curse’s offensive capability.
All this weaponry, however, lacks the ability to penetrate hardened defences like capital ship shields and armour. On its own against such targets, Magma Curse’s effectiveness is severely hampered. That said, the sheer amount of output power means that the Magma Curse cannot be entirely ignored even by fully shielded vessels, especially in the groups it is usually in deployed. It can overwhelm most vessels of its own size by this fact alone, given the technology disparity between it and most of its prey.
The Magma Curse has shielding rated to 460TXq and an Armour Integrity Capacity rated to 205TXq, but its main defence comes from its agility. Its trio of engines give it an acceleration of 17mc and manoeuvrability rated to 192 MEUs – about 50% more than the Strayvian’s chosen fleet-wide parameters. This affords is solid protection for a vessel of its size and enables it to comfortably get to within striking distance of its targets.
