The DT 01 Valkotret (lit. “incapacitator”) occupies a unique position on the Qyax Star-Naval Defence Fleet as its sole torpedo vessel. Much of the normal role of the torpedo ship is fulfilled by the Qyaxes’ plethora of particle beam weapons. But not all. There are still some functions for which torpedoes are best suited, and it is here that the Valkotret is called upon.
The Valkotret has no spinal particle beam itself. Instead, in has three fore-and-rear torpedo tubes; one ventral and the other two dorsal. Each tube fires a burst of two torpedoes and carries two dozen torpedoes. The usual mix is an even split of 12 HTA-48 Siluor standard torpedoes and 12 GTA-36 Daxyt cluster torpedoes. The Daxyts are used most often, to engage clusters of dispersed light targets, like the Xygritts’ Isanagas missile frigate.
The Valkotret uses the same VN001770 engines as the similarly-sized Rettik Faar. The Valkotret is heavier, however, and reaches only 178 MEUs and an acceleration of 16mc. This agility both provides the Valkotret with solid evasive capability and the ability to reposition for it attacks.
The Valkotret has some limited ability for self-defence, with two XF-2 railgun emplacements and two point defence lazer batteries, but it generally relies on escort vessels. It has strong shields for a vessel of its size; at 1200TXq, its shields are equivalent to most typical heavy cruisers. It has only a thin 40TXq armour belt beneath this, however, and is vulnerable to a sustained attack.
Only modest number of Valkotrets are in use by the Qyax Star Naval Defence Fleet, and it is uncommon to see more than a handful in a taskforce, and often no more than one or two.
