The Leopard 2 has a history that runs all the way back to the 20th century. Though the original eventually was supplanted, the aesthetic revival of the late-22nd century brought a tank which looked very much like it in homage. This tank has itself had a long and illustrious history since then.

The Leopard 2X8TF is a Tarrainian refit of the 2X8, an older version now supplanted in the leading powers by the 2X9 (and rumoured 2X10). The 2X8TF looks rather less like it ancestor, seemingly owing more to the Leopard 2SG, adding an additional belt of modern composite armour. This pushes the 2X8TF to rating 20 armour against energy attacks and rating 19 against kinetic, respectable armour for an unshielded tank and superior to some more MBTs like the lighter T-150 Indric of the Soviet Remnant.

The 2X8TF replaces the stock 2X8’s 80mm mass driver cannon with a more modern and substantial 120mm magnetic linear accelerator rail gun. This is supplemented by a pair of lazer cannons mounted coaxially above the main gun. Though only rated at Tier 18 when firing in tandem, this still gives the 2X8TF additional firepower for dealing with the more advanced and shield vehicles of the Federation’s main enemy, the Herosine Empire.

The weapons ae rounded out by the Tarrainian Federation’s standard automated 20mm rotary cannon for point-defence and anti-infantry work.

These weapons required a new power plant, as the demands were beyond the core of the old 2X8. The extra weight precluded any additional warhead weaponry or sensors. Still, the 2X8TF upgrade renders the tank able to go toe-to-toe with most modern main battle tanks that would overmatch the 2X8 itself.
