In late 2350, the first Mosasaurus Conodon Super Carrier was spotted. Intelligence suggests was the third version of three proposed carrier variants of the Mosasaurus, CV1 through CV3. CV1 was closer to a hybrid, reputedly shedding some turrets for the ability to hold three squadrons of fighters. CV2 and CV3 both replaced the primary engines with an additional four secondary engines and a much larger hangar and differed primarily in their armament, with CV2 retaining some of the larger turrets.
CV3 was seemingly accepted as the most cost-effective solution for a carrier and became the Conodon. The Conodon’s smaller engines provide only 2.4mc acceleration and a correspondingly low 21 MEUs. The communications and ECM networks have been entirely replaced. A single ECM suite remains to provide local support. The sensor and communications arrays have been greatly expanded in size, providing almost four times the range and power. This assists the Conodon in the strategic role, where it is ideally located further away from a battle and using hyperdrive-capable fighters to launch FTL strikes.
The Hoffmannii’s point defence armament remains unchanged. All the larger turrets have been replaced, however, with smaller former Soviet Remnant particle beam blisters of the same type used on the Gerrhonotus Lazcanoi Destroyer and Heloderma Light Cruisers, each rated to around 208TXq. Additional shield generators increases its shield rating by about 6% to 17800TXq.
The Conodon’s hangar bay can contain seven fighter squadrons, though the standard seems to be six squadrons of fighters and a squadron of six Hatzegopteryx Assault Shuttles. The large size of the fighter bay is clearly intended for use with larger smallcraft, though it is still too small to accommodate capital ships. The open-front design would theoretically lead to a weak point. But the individual hangars are stationed off the primary bay, and sealed with armoured doors. The bay itself is also very heavily armoured. Interestingly, this raises the vessel’s net Armour Integrity Capacity up to 9600TXq (an additional 15%) despite being primarily concentrated in this region, showing some of the limitations of the net AIC rating system used here.
