In the early hours of October 28th 1940, the greek prime minister Ioannis Metaxas denied entry to Mussolini's forces in Greece, thus sparking the entry of Greece in the war, mere months after most of Europe had folded under the axis boot.
Later that day Metaxas announced to his cabinet:
"...so, the war that the nation is undertaking today is solely a war of honor, and because I deeply believe that moral values will ultimately triumph over material ones, I am convinced that Victory will ultimately be on the side of the Allies..."
