Mainwaring-Moore’s first entry into the field of starfighter manufacture, the MMF-101 Comet Interceptor is a promising start. The Comet has superb speed and accelration, limited only by the SSA’s low relativity-speed threshold. Over a short burst, it can easily out-pace almost all other human fighters. And it has the agility to match, making it perfect for intercepting enemy strike fighters.
This speed comes at a price, however. The Comet is not heavily protected – only modest shields defend the unarmoured hull. It carries twin hyper-ray guns for close range work, but its main armament is eight Ingram-Faust Ascalon missiles. These long-range all-aspect warheads allow the Comet to engage targets from safely outside point-defense range and make fast sweeps without having to stop to dogfight. However, it also means that the Comets quickly run out of munitions, and either have to abandon the field until they can reload or get in close and dogfight, where despite their mobility, their light weapons and shields will tell.
