Road Brother

The Hussite Road Brother is part of the fighting core of the Hussite Roads Pilgrims, guarding engines, securing crossings, clearing condemned routes, and defending roads whose meaning is greater than any settlement beside them. He is not merely infantry, but an armed servant of a people who believe movement is sacred and that every road must be judged by where it leads.

Raised within the procession, he learns routecraft, engine work, navigation, and logistics long before carrying a weapon. His duty is not to hold ground, but to preserve passage. A heavy coat, patched armor, an iron helmet, and a traditional cowl protect him from war and hardship, often bearing prayers, family marks, and records of survived journeys.

The Road Brother fights alongside armored haulers, shrine-engines, fuel carriers, and road machinery. When the procession halts, vehicles become barricades and defensive positions. Armed with rifles, shotguns, axes, polearms, pistols, and demolition tools, he is expected to fight, repair, build, carry, tow, or destroy as necessity demands. Usefulness matters more than glory.

On holy roads, he protects refugees, engineers, and travelers. On condemned roads, he becomes a breaker, destroying routes deemed dangerous. His discipline is severe, as a single mistake can endanger an entire road column. He also serves as one of the first witnesses to a route’s true nature, reporting strange signs that may determine whether a road is repaired, avoided, or erased.

Life as a Road Brother is harsh: long watches, exhausting marches, and labor under fire. Yet the procession depends on him. Priests may bless a road and engineers may rebuild it, but neither can succeed if he cannot hold the line. In battle, he secures junctions, protects fuel convoys, clears escape routes, and defends narrow passages until the last engine passes.
