The first Attack Battleship of the 7th generation to be built by the Qyax, the Dorux Sraaol (lit. “heavy bombarder”) is rather atypical. The design emphasis was to create a more generalist ship that would serve more purposes than pure combat, without impedance of the combat ability.
To this end, the Dorux Sraaol is outfitted by a novel system of modular units for supporting utilities, which can be relatively easily re-configured. While this is most often done in space dock, the Dorux Sraaol can perform this to a limited degree even in the field. This support modularity allows it to perform as a general jack-of-all trades for noncombat duties.
The modules typically include expanded medical facilities and military stores for ships on fleet duty or general crisis management. Some vessels, however, serve as semi-civilian roles for exploration or research, which carry a different mix of warheads (typically more probes). Some vessels on long-term duties even have expanded crew facilities for families. (Though it must be noted that Qyax crews in general still have a smaller proportion of physical crew than most powers to begin with.)
It is an unusual choice to see such a large vessel considered for this sort of operation – most navies would typically consider a heavy cruiser or small battlecruiser, not something which is ostensibly a dreadnought. There has been some concerns raised that if the Qyax considered this a necessity (even before the emergence of threats like the Strayvian Dominion, the Lazerblasters, the Yrgynela and XGA 01) that the Qyaxes, and perhaps the elenthnars as a whole, know something we so far do not.
Despite its slew of support units, the Dorux Sraaol remains a very dangerous vessel. While it still has an immensely powerful spinal particle beam (rated to around 8000TXq peak output), the Dorux Sraaol’s principle weapons are its six missile launchers, each launcher being capable of firing bursts of three missiles.
The cavernous magazines hold 1623 missiles with a range of warheads. A standard warship load includes 18 FG8081 Decoy Projection Units, 36 probes, 756 BOR-56 Durnele semi-guided rockets, 108 ITO-22 Ioulee long-range missiles, 378 VTO-78 Skeelope missiles and 324 UTO-52 Galff point-defence missiles. The Dorux Sraaol thus can deal with a wide variety of targets at all ranges, and even at its relatively high rate of fire, it can last out multiple battles.
The ITO-22 Ioulee missiles are of particular note. While these only carry a 185TXq-yield warhead, they have an engagement envelope of 1.18 million kilometres. This allows the Dorux Sraaol to open a battle from out of range of all but other long-range missiles.
Eight lazer point-defence batteries with a combined output of 3920TXq mean that the Dorux Sraaol can operate without an escort. While this is common in smaller engagements – the Dorux Sraaol being arguably the most versatile of the Qyax’s larger vessels, it is still usually accompanied by an escort cruiser – typically one of the Jovinooxes in larger battles.
While its firepower is impressive, the Dorux Sraaol is unremarkable in mobility. As it is primarily a long-range vessel, agility was not prioritised. Still, the four VN001690 engines manage to reach 100 MEUs, at the trade-off of a slow acceleration of only 6.8mc.
As a high-value target, the Dorux Sraaol is well-protected by a 6400TXq-rated shield grid. Beneath, however, the armour belt is weak, rating only to 1600TXq, the same as the Sutroq, almost half the Dorux Sraaol’s size.
The Dorux Sraaol’s power and versatility comes at a steep price, as it has the highest per-unit production cost of any ship in the Qyax fleet. It is nevertheless the most produced of the large capital ships. Due to its general-purpose utility, it is often deployed on individual assignments and so it is rare to see it in any numbers in a given fleet engagement. More often, it will be supported in a fighting flotilla with Ylurax Missile Cruisers.
