The FL 01 Zontoq (lit “spear-carrier”) is the lightest ship of the line in the current Qyax fleet. It follows the standard design ethic, with its firepower coming from the spinal mount particle beam, rated to 782TXq over an accuracy envelope of 320 000km. In the Zontoq’s case, however, this is its only anti-capital ship weapon, with only two point-defence lazer batteries and a single dorsal XF-1 interdiction defence railgun. This makes it a useful escort vessel for larger ships, but in small packs it can be quite dangerous, provided it has support to keep the enemy off its tail.
The Zontoq has decent protection for its size, with 400TXq shields, but nothing outstanding, and it relies on its pair of VN1810 engines and evasion as its principle defence. It manoeuvrability is good at 187 MEUs, though the VN001810’s acceleration is somewhat weaker, and only 16.2mc.
The Zontoq is frequently seen providing shield-stripping power when deployed in a flotilla with a Skaark and sometimes a Raqua or two, whose particle beam profiles its own matches. It is less often seen with escorting Nossags, in the absence of a dedicated escort cruiser for similar reasons, though it is not ideal for this task.
