The leader and founder of the Rossa Cartel. For six decades he has been the central figure of authority for the crime syndicate, growing it from a measley group of padfoots in Tradver to the sprawling empire that it is today. Many wager that upon Skilet’s death, the Cartel will crumble in tow.
Skilet “The Boss” has spent six decades building an empire from the shadows; an empire that has grown from a ragtag band of pickpockets and burglars to a vast international crime syndicate that operates across five kingdoms. Where the Rossa Cartel’s rivals are often little more than thugs, the Cartel holds itself to a code of professionalism and decorum. They do not simply mug merchants on the street; they negotiate “protection fees” that are paid willingly, or else. They navigate the underworld with the finesse of businessmen, far removed from the rabble that fights over scraps on the street. This careful balance of crime and decorum, this well-oiled operation, all comes back to Skilet himself. It is said that should he fall, the Cartel will collapse with him, for he is its architect, its iron hand, and its ghost.
Born as Reyn in the slums of Tradver, Skilet’s life began like many of the desperate street rats around him. Yet, unlike those who were content to scrape by, Skilet saw potential in his surroundings. He quickly made a name for himself as a cunning padfoot, orchestrating schemes far beyond his humble origins. His first major score came when he delivered the dwarf prince-slayer Barthin Steelforge to the King of Baldur for execution. The bounty was grand, but Skilet’s hunger for wealth drove him to double-cross his employer; after claiming the bounty, he staged Barthin’s escape, having his associates break the dwarf free. Then, after a second bounty was placed on the prince-slayer, Skilet recaptured him, claiming the prize once more.
With his newly amassed fortune, Skilet, alongside his partner Conrad, established the foundations of the Rossa Cartel in the Belfrian city of Velandria. At first, it was simply a humble gambling den, but with Conrad’s ascension to Duke of Tradver and the dark magic of Seroca cloaking their activities, the Cartel's reach grew like wildfire. Tradver became their new capital, and with the establishment of the Crescent Moon Casino, they secured a reliable front for their operations. Under Skilet’s leadership, the Cartel expanded into other kingdoms, branching into drug trade, money laundering, and other lucrative ventures. The Cartel's Dream Powder (a dangerous and illicit hallucinogen banned across the continent) became a commodity that flowed through the veins of the underworld, making Skilet’s influence felt in every corner of Baldur, Belfrie, Draksborne, Formen, and Karkanoth.
Throughout their rise, the Cartel navigated the watchful eyes of law enforcement with ease; Skilet made sure of that. When local officials attempted to eradicate their presence, they were soon swayed by coin, luxurious feasts, and the promise of a Cartel that only targeted troublesome gangs, not the average citizen. Skilet’s philosophy was clear; the Cartel must appear as gentlemen, a cut above the common criminal, and above reproach in the eyes of those who could be persuaded. It was a strategy that worked for decades, but in their rise to power, they made enemies; none more dangerous than the Golden Griffins. When Griffins killed Cartel members outside the Crescent Moon Casino nearly ten years ago, Skilet responded with brutal swiftness. He ordered the Griffins’ headquarters barricaded and set ablaze, igniting a bloody conflict that turned Tradver into a warzone until martial law was declared.
Now, the Cartel’s history spans six decades, stronger than ever with Skilet is still at its helm. But the Golden Griffins have not forgotten the blood spilled in the streets of Tradver, and they have long plotted their revenge, though being tied up in the Liturium War prevented them from executing it until now. As the Cartel prepares to celebrate the sixieth anniversary of the Crescent Moon, Skilet's enemies lie in wait, ready to tear down the empire he has built, and to see the head of “The Boss” roll.
