A half-Drow raised in the slums of Baldur’s city of Veinril. Known for her quick wits and quickdraw, Lendara has proven herself a clever and capable member of the Cartel for years, thus earning Skilet's favour and place by his side as a bodyguard. With eyes like a hawk, ears trained like a fox and a mastery of firearms, she is the ultimate deterrent for any would-be-heroes who want to take her boss’ life.
A half-drow born in the outpost of Zander’s Peril to a human translator who had fallen in love with a Drow ranger, Lendara’s mother was scorned and her job stripped when the race of her child became apparent. With little else to cling to, she moved to the city of Veinril where her parents resided as cleaners in the slave pens. Needless to say the early life of Lendara was not an easy one, facing hardship for her strange appearance as a half-drow, the progeny of a floozy mother from her grandparents, and the upturned noses of commoners and nobles alike for her family’s squalid occupations.
She made a promise to herself leave Veinril and her family the first chance she ever got, and it was at the age of sixteen when that chance arose. She had lived like a street rat for most of her younger years and the first time she laid eyes on Skilet passing through the slums, she saw his gravitas of importance. He wasn’t snobby like the other nobles, or he wouldn’t step foot in the filth-laden streets she called home. He raised himself up from nothing, and she could see it etched on his face and in his walk. For days he was in Veinril, in and out of various small businesses and establishments, taking little note of the slave dens or nearby open mines the city was famous for. It was in her observations that she noted a group of local scum planning some sort of ambush against the halfling and his entourage for the next time he ventured into the slums.
She dashed to warn him, and though the halfling was taken aback, he seemed to believe the girl, asking one of his men to verify her claims and report back. The scout confirmed that indeed, a gang was waiting for them a few blocks down, and Skilet thus decided they had worn out their welcome in Veinril. In thanks to Lendara, he asked her what she would like as a reward in return, to which the young half-drow responded “to work for you.”
So as simply as that, Skilet brought her into his employ, yet from her he felt a sense of fervor and zealotry. A strange tiding of loyalty in her that he seldom felt with other members of the cartel. After hearing her pitiful upbringing on the journey back to Belfrie, he decided he would raise this child like it were his own daughter, teaching her all the tricks of the trade and passing down his skillful use of a firearm. He taught her to always be on her feet, expecting the worst at any occasion. This cultivated an undying sense of loyalty in her, and Skilet became the father she never had. Thus to him, she was the greatest bodyguard of all: one that could not be swayed by any amount of coin.
For the last decade she has seldom left his side, and would gladly throw herself in harm’s way if it meant his protection. It is in Lendara that Skilet truly sees his successor, moreso than any of his officer’s and brown-noses across the continent. Though he has never told anyone of this plan, save for his willmaker who will enstate her as the new chairman of the Cartel in his demise.
