Cursebound Heirs
Description
Acolyte Gojun the Rift-Crowned was a young acolyte of Ordo Time Linaris, sent into the depths of Techno City to unravel a case involving a bloody cult of heretics and demon worshippers. Amid smoke, prayers, and the rusted drone of machines, rumors spread through the city of a new god of curses who would one day manifest and drown the planet in ruin. The trail led him to an ancient shrine hidden in the ruins of an old factory, where among dead metal and dried blood he found a strange artifact, a severed demonic finger, too alive for dead flesh. In that same instant the heretics fell upon him, and, driven into a corner, he heard within his own mind a calm and hungry voice promising power in exchange for consent. Thus Sakunarch the HexScion entered his fate, a demonic entity that hides its true name and, in essence, took residence within the acolyte’s body, subjugating him under the guise of salvation. This is the story Gojun told the interrogators when they found him half-dead, the artifact inside him and power tearing outward so violently that instruments went mad, yet the longer Ordo Time Linaris watches him, the stronger the suspicion grows that this is only a convenient version hiding a far greater lie.
Now they exist as one host and two minds, though more and more it seems this bond has only one will left, and it does not belong to the man. Sakunarch behaves almost friendly, sharp-tongued, fond of jokes, readily mimicking human emotions as if learning to be alive, using Gojun’s body as mask, voice, and weapon. But beneath that ease lurks a predator’s nature, because near him ordinary people gradually lose strength, their heartbeat slows, blood pressure drops, and the weak simply pass out, while psi-active individuals, by contrast, feel a dangerous surge of clarity and power, as if the demon feeds on one and throws open doors for the other. In combat form Sakunarch surpasses a human many times over, even a fully armored space knight, warping space, laying curses, and breaking matter with the ease of someone tugging at poorly stitched cloth. For this reason Acolyte Gojun and Sakunarch remain not allies of the organization, but a controlled anomaly, a useful and monstrously dangerous instrument kept under constant surveillance, locked in chambers of reduced psi activity, ringed with frequency seals and consecrated incense, and released only when there is no other way. In the eyes of Ordo Time Linaris this is neither a hero nor a captive demon, but a single cursed entity in which the acolyte may still be alive, yet with each passing day becomes more and more a shadow beneath the Rift-Crown.
