The Zoth has three separate transport bays – one in the centre, and two modules along the “wing”. These are linked with a walkway just under the wing surface, which allows crew and infantry to travel between them, but vehicles are confined to the bay they are loaded in.\r
\r
The main bay has a pair to infantry doors at the front of the fuselage. The vehicle ramp and loading hatch is located forwards, dropping from under the nose module. The reason for this is the central vehicle bay is located at this level. The level at the bottom of the fuselage where the infantry doors are is instead dedicated to the landing gear and secondary grav engines, and the magnetic clamps that allow the Zoth to latch onto a starship. In addition, vertical infantry hatches on the bottom of the level allow infantry to breech starships which the Zoth is attached to. The forward infantry doors are capable of projecting a force-field a few metres from the ships, which can also be used to form an air-tight lock to travel between the Zoth and another vessel. It also affords additional protection to infantry debussing on a land battlefield.\r
\r
The two side modules have bays which are shorter but taller. They have a more conventional front-opening ramp which opens directly down onto the ground. The purpose of splitting the vessel’s transport into the three modules rather than one bay appears to be reducing the effect of any one of the bays suffering a direct hit. On the Zoth, such a hit would only reduce the available compartment’s complement of troops, rather than them all being killed, damaged or blocked by debris as they would with a single larger bay.\r
\r
The Zoth unusually uses six VG-3 light railgun turrets instead of lazer weapons. These have a much smaller engagement sphere to the XG-1 railguns used on the larger starships – 0.93Ym³ instead of 7.5Ym³. While this is larger than the standard lazer batteries’ engagement sphere, the net impact output is lower at only 430 TXq. The power draw of the VG-3s is substantially less, however, leaving the Zoth more free power for its 1160 TXq fighter-grade shields and its engines. Two of the turrets are mounted either side of the nose landing ramp, allowing the Zoth to provide covering fire during deployment, while the upper four continue to provide defence against missile attack.\r
\r
The Zoth has three engines. The larger central VN-01735 engine provides most of the thrust a 41.64mc acceleration, while two smaller GHT1100 engines provide the manoeuvring via thrust vectoring. The Zoth is a little too large to benefit from traditional flaps like the DL(D) 04 Volk, and is thus more cumbersome in atmosphere. Nevertheless in space, the Zoth has a fighter’s agility, rated at 460 MEUs. The Zoth has a small GV drive – the coils run along the sides of the vessel and partially inside the wing, which also serves as thermal radiator.\r
\r
Finally, the Zoth carries to light torpedo tubes, one either side of the nose module. Each of these carries three ZGQ-12 Haythe light torpedoes, with a 295TXq yield. Estimation of the mass and size indicates that these warhead have a Standard Warhead Capacity Rating of about 2, and thus the light torpedo launchers are thought to have a SWC rating of 6 each. The Haythe torpedoes are used, as common with many assault shuttles, to help reduce enemy shields prior to boarding. The Zoth is often deployed from the Ky Gor Fraa Capture Cruiser, which is itself an accompanied by a pack of Kehtt Light Drones. The Zoths make an initial attack pass to drop the target’s shields for the Kehtt’s leech cannons to disable it, allowing the Zoths to board in safety. \r
\r
\r
Size (Bounding Box, Sprue/Base): 26.40mm x 41.45mm x 6.77mm (12.60mm x 13.05mm x 3.38mm individually)
