This rotating ring of turrets is very clearly either inspired by or possibly directly copied from the design used by the Xyriat’s CPD01 Volovax and DP01A Vuxor escort vessels. (Whether independently or under license if not yet known.) The results are thus broadly similar – higher rates of fire against attacks from a single aspect. The Qyax, further to the Xyriats, appear to have improved on the design, as there is notably improvement against dispersed targets in a cone of accuracy, as opposed to concentration of fire against a point target. This is likely to do with the higher co-ordination of the digital intelligences operating the guns, combining the speed of the computer everyone has to rely on with the intuition and flexibility of a sophont being.\r
\r
The Jovinoox mounts six point-defence lazer turrets on the hull, and six more on the outer ring. Those on the ring are interspersed with six XG-1 railgun turrets, providing additional range. The Jovinoox Qen removes the rail guns to instead mount 18 lazer turrets on the ring, but it is otherwise identical in all other regards (at least in performance) to the Jovinoox. This shades the Qen into being a superior anti-missile platform, at the expense of some anti-fighter capability or more rarely, anti-ship capability, due to the reduced engagement sphere.\r
\r
The cruiser does not have a spinal mount beam. Instead, the GV coils simply meet at a smaller focussing disk, rather than a ring.\r
\r
The Jovinoox’s defences are adequate, but not outstanding. Four of the six VN01680 engines, the top and bottom, combine to produce an acceleration of 16.1mc acceleration. The outer two engines are dedicated solely to thrust-vectoring, and impart 183 MEUs, principally for evasion, which is the Jovinoox’s principle defence. But even when hit, it has shielded rated to an estimated 1200TXq – and much as a heavy cruiser. The armour, in typical Qyax fashion, has a relatively low AIC, rated to a projected 600 TXq. Still, this amounts to almost twice the protection of a typical light cruiser its size as might be found in human space.\r
\r
The Jovinoox’s powerful drives allow it to keep pace with all but the Fast Frigates of the Star-Naval Defence Fleet, and it is deployed with destroyers and frigates as often as with cruiser and larger vessels. The Qyax seem to use the Jovinoox as a general point-defence craft, as no destroyer or frigate-sized escort vessels have been encountered.
