The Graata Sarox is a dedicated rocket platform. In common with the other missile vessels seen in the Qyax fleet, it has three launchers, on dorsal and two side launchers. All three are styled like fins, giving the Graata Sarox a shark-like appearance. (It is, however, likely to be a marine creature with similar convergent biology, rather than an actual shark given what we known of Urrot’s ecology.) The fins seem to be additional thermal radiators, but it not currently understood why these should be required on missile tubes, which conventionally generate far less heat than energy weapons. One theory posited that the launch mechanism uses a method which generates significant heat – perhaps due to some exotic ignition system, but if so, then no evidence of that has been seen in smaller-scale missiles such as those carried on the Kuff.\r
\r
The Graata Sarox carries a payload of what is estimated to be 288 BOR-56 Durnele semi-guided rockets, 96 in each of the three racks. The Durnele’s warhead payload is projected to be 190TXq, which is a fairly high payload for a semi-guided rocket; the Aotrs SD-Shredder, a much more advanced missile, is only 5 TXq stronger. This lends some credence to the exotic-ignition theory, since sacrifices in payload must have been made to accommodate the warhead load, and the other missile ships do carry Durneles as part of their payload.\r
\r
The Graata Sarox is intended to sprint in to close range to unleash its warheads. This seems strictly unnecessary, as the Durnele has an accuracy envelope of 58 000km, but seems, somewhat in keeping with Qyax ship doctrine, designed to force enemies to expend point-defence on the closer immediate threat, allowing conventional missiles to strike from a distance. To this end, the Graata Sarox’s twin VN-01575 engines give it at acceleration of 16mc, and around 25 MEUs. To absorb the inevitable fire this tactic generates, the Graata Sarox has a shield grid with an estimated output of 800TXq.\r
The Graata Sarox has a notably small crew, even accounting for the presence of digital intelligences. Around 65% of the ship’s functions appears to be entirely given over to nonsapient robots. It crew facilities are especially robust, and there are at least seven redundant local communication systems. This is in apparent expectation that the Graata Sarox’s tactics can lead to high casualties and these steps reduce the amount of exposed life. In essence, the Graata Sarox is two-thirds a drone ship. It is currently unclear why the Qyax have not been able to make this fully a drone ship, but it is likely that it is simply too large to fully automate or remotely pilot in that fashion.\r
\r
The designation of the Graata Sarox as FF 03 suggests that there is, or has been an FF 01 Fast Frigate. One tentative source suggested the name Hoal Banaa (“quick bullet”) but whether this is a prototype, a retired design or simply a vessel that has yet to be observed is unknown.
