It is the size of a conventional fighter. Yolks are typically flown remotely by digital intelligences, but otherwise are fully automated. It is possible, but very unusual, for a digital intelligence to fly on “in-person”, due to their high relative fragility.\r
\r
The lack of a crew compartment meant more space available for weapons. \r
\r
The Yolk is a true fighter-bomber. A single nose-mounted light torpedo launcher carries two ZGQ-4 Naproo torpedoes, with an estimated 450TXq yield. This is enough to cause serious damage to a capital starship (and devastate ground targets), but limited number means the Yolk’s longevity in this role is short.\r
\r
To fall back on, however, it mounts no less than six 20-TXq-output lazer cannons, one under each wing-foil. The Yolk’s twin VD01650 engines give it and acceleration of 42.7mc acceleration and 482 MEUs, more than sufficient to dogfight with most fighters. 210TXq-output shielding gives it considerable resilience to boot.\r
\r
In atmosphere, the Yolk is equipped with flaps, which give it a slight additional edge in agility in concert with the standard thrust-vectoring. While all starfighters suffer a drop in mobility in atmosphere – by definition, there is more resistance – the flaps keep the Yolk’s a little higher, especially as it is no need of the same level of g-force compensation without a pilot. \r
\r
The lack of pilot also means the Yolk can use a less compact and expensive GV coil. These run the length of the fuselage, and their presence is thought to be the reason why the Yolk only had a single torpedo tube, rather than more conventional pair – the tube is sandwiched between the coils internally.\r
\r
There is some suggestion, thus far without confirmation, that a variant or very similar drone exists which lacks the GV coils and has an expanded torpedo magazine. However, thus far, no drone matching this profile have been discovered, nor even the designation or name of such a craft.\r
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0299/7711/6804/files/DL_28D_29_2004_20Yolk_20Fleet_20coverOG.jpg?v=1784045945
